  1. what is this nonsense? why are they only admitting “exceptionally poor”
people whose “parents are having affairs”, have “alcoholic muslim
families”….what kind of ridiculous criteria is this for college
    acceptances? this is RIDICULOUS!

  2. For people with no sense of humor: my comment is written in a parody genre
( If you don’t know what it is … look it up… you’ll be smarter 🙂

For Armaja Larue & Vivi Nguyen : IGNORANT –means that a person doesn’t
have enough information on the subject , if a person has different OPINION
than yours that doesn’t mean that the person has less education than you

Read dictionary, kiddies….If you try to insult somebody at least use
    correct words… 🙂

For everybody else: I am outraged that the admission commission use such
things as parents divorce as an additional points to one applicant ‘s essay

Do you know how many marriages and up in divorce? Care to guess WHAT is the
major reason for all that divorces?

It is sad that American colleges use this whining stories as an extra
    points ….

I am sure that there are many kids who truly deserve a spot in a great
college and don’t use such “whiny points” in their essays….On the other
hand, there is no investigation in case if a kid CLAIMS to have a rough
childhood….I guess, some play the system….

Very sad and screwed up system.

If you add to this, that the best way to get to college is to have a
relative who is working there….And there are also some feeder schools
…Plus diversity factor ( That in plain English means racism)

I personally know kids who get into best schools like Stanford ,
    Berkley,UCLA, Ivies ….
And it is their opinion that some kids who got their are struggling and do
not deserve to be there…on the other hand they know kids who were
    brilliant and didn’t get admitted….

Once again: VERY SCREWED UP SYSTEM …
And if American colleges continue this practice…. quality of college
    graduates will suffer…

  3. The Secret of The Perfect Application:

“….I am a poor black girl from rough neighborhood. My mom drinks a lot,
my brother is a drug addict, my dad just molested me after sleeping with a
prostitute, my sister was shot last year by a gang member, last week our
house went up in smoke …and my best friend just died from cancer….I am
writing this letter using his pen because I don’t have any money to buy my
own … I probably will be hungry today but I am using my last dollar to
send you this application letter…. ”

Hello, Harvard!!! Here I come !!!

  4. Hearing this makes me want to cry.. Does this mean that all my nights of
staying up anywhere from 1 to 3 am almost every night to do all my extra
curricular’s (music, art, Quizbowl, Internship etc), homework, tutoring
jobs and my 20+ page research paper (I conducted my own study with the
guidance of a professor – who I sought out and emailed on my own), studying
for SAT/ACT’s means nothing when I happen to have a relatively happy home
life and haven’t experienced a major tragedy or setback? =(
My family is not poor, but by no means are we rich – especially living on
right next to NYC, where the cost of living is generally the higher than
basically the rest of the country.
Just about the only advantage I have is that I am a first generation
    college student.
I applied to small liberal arts schools right on par with Amherst.
(Williams, Swarthmore, Wesleyan). This is really starting to scare me =(

  5. this is a fake ? right ? They don’t have time to fuck around and discuss
their essays and shit, there are fucking like thousands of applications,
they don’t go one by one and go into detail of each applicant….that’ll
    take forever!!

  6. There is such a misconception that a low acceptance rate college is
equivalent to a top college that will guarantee you all the success in the
world. I bought into that idea as well. However, a college is ultimately
just that. Just because one gets denied from Princeton or Harvard doesn’t
mean they aren’t “Ivy-League” material. Knowledge is out there and a
meaningless reject letter or a low grade shouldn’t discourage anyone from
giving up in being who they truly want to be…

  7. How do you get a 6.5 GPA out of a 4.0 scale and how do you get 5’s on all
AP Exams without taking AP courses? You have to be like the smartest
student in the nation/world to do that hahaha.

  8. This is one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever seen. If the decisions
are made as quickly as that and are as make-or-break as that, then fucking
hell who on earth has a chance?

  9. This is why I just don’t wanna even bother with writing a good personal
statement coz the dudes who’s going to read it are very likely to be a
lesser mind. Why the fk am bothering sharing my life experience with some
morons and let them laugh about it??

  10. So just because she is an “inside the box kind of gal”, that automatically
puts her on the wait list? What the actual fuck… Is this really how
    college acceptances really work??

  11. I feel like you can easily get into college if you win the sympathy vote.
There’s other factors, but that seems like something that can easily
determine whether or not you are admitted.

  12. this is a joke, right?
“there are times when idk why i put my hand up or fail to put it up” ???
And its downright impossible to get anything above a 4.0 without any AP
classes to inflate your GPA. Thank God i didn’t apply to this school.

  13. lol, bunch of douchebags rejecting andaccepting people based on their
personality?? Moral: make a sad story and send that in as your college
essay and you will be a strong candidate. What a load of bullshit.
