  1. I so want to be out doing that stuff. A long range sailing trip is a major
bucket list item for me to be sure. Ever since I was a kid and read of
Thor Heyerdhal’s journeys I’ve been hooked. I just don’t know where to
begin. I live 3 hrs. drive from the CA coast, which makes owning a
boat…less than practical. If anyone has any advice for me on how to move
towards this goal I’d dearly appreciate the input. Thanks in advance. Oh,
and thanks for the great vid & the lesson learned.

  2. I spent about 12 years as a yacht captain, winters being spent in the
eastern Caribbean, and this brought back some fond memories. I definitely
had my share of crazy dingy adventures, but fortunately never had one
tumble in the surf like that. There’s something to be said for smaller
tenders that you can drag up on the beach! Nice that there was some good
    help nearby.
My sailing years were (way) pre-internet, youtube and such, and sometimes I
wish that I could go back and film it all. All I’ve got is a few packs of
old photos … and the great memories, of course. :-)

  3. I used to land on the beach with my zodiac digny as the tide was going
    down, enjoyed my stay on the island while the tide was low but be ready;
when the tide pick you up again, it’s time to go!

  4. We were staying on a local island while my yacht was anchored in the bay. I
came down the beach one early morning to find my tender swamped on the
shoreline by the waves brought on by a change in wind direction. As I
struggled to get all the gear out of it (some had washed away), and empty
it enough to drag it clear of the waves there was a man on the beach taking
photos of me. Thanks for the help buddy!!!! NOT
