The Adirondack architectural style gets its name from its ruggedness, inspired by the Adirondack Mountains found in the state of New York. The camps presently there, known as the Great Camps, usually use materials that are very easily acquired, and build them into their surroundings, giving them a more organic appearance. The Great Camps had been originally built with a rich clientele in mind; the contractors wanted to provide their visitors with the opportunity of becoming 1 with nature while nevertheless being surrounded by the amusement they were used to — hot water, appliances, comfortable beds, plus homey, comfortable living areas to relax and entertain within.

He came up with the inspiration for this design by visiting Swiss chalets. their own rustic style appealed to many wealthy clients, and the large quantity of materials allowed every home to be customized in order to its owner’s preferences very easily. This also meant that each house was extremely different each inside and out, along with bold and interesting highlights. Many of the interior decorations of these homes also featured traditional elements, such as mounted pet heads and fish. each were popular accents to most of the homes, as had been exposed beams, full records on the interior walls, plus naturally rough-cut stone highlights. Homes and getaways made in this style are mostly found in Adirondack Park, the biggest condition park in America. Though the recreation area spans over 6 mil acres, only 42% will be open to the public.
