I love her voice. it’s so soothing
If the first instance, she refers to the word as seeding compost or seeding
mix. I think we can all agree that it should be as sterile as possible. You
don’t want your seedlings competing with unknowns, let alone start thinning
out the wrong ones. In the second instance, she means garden compost. Hot
pile or not, you never get rid of all seeds. Seedlings don’t need nutrients
in the first stages of development, anyway, only later, once true leaves
emerge or when ready to plant on.

Most certianly! Hot piles did eliminate most seed issues (scaping off top &
sides) but I used to ‘pasturize’ batches of my finished compost in large
wide pans in the oven for planting seeds or container growing. Not
sterlize, as I wanted to preserve some ‘life’ in the soil but this process
did prevent weed seeds from sprouting, or harful nematodes, etc. Still, it
was homemade compost. Best regards.

thnx for sharing the playlist I will get to all 6 of them one day have
added them to my watch list. I am beginning my garden this year-will begin
my seed germination any day now, sorta waiting for this storm front to pass
and me get over this bout of congestion and begin to feel better myself. I
have about 1/4 acre to play with and want to do some permaculture type of
plantings using some raised beds, a few tires to plant things in, and do a
couple of nitrogen fixer beds with comfrey and legumes
She is so very knowledgeable.

what is the ‘grit’ made of that is put on the seedling soil?
