  1. Hi Peter

Thanks very much, I tend to always focus on the eye on portraits, if only
one is in focus, then the closest to the camera. I’m going to make a video
on how best to set your Canon/Nikon up soon.

    Cheers.

  2. Nice tips 🙂
Just a quick sidenote for anyone thinking of buying a lens for portraits.
I have a DX Camera as well ( also a Nikon D5100) and since it does not have
a full frame sensor you will have a crop factor by using these type of lens.

The prefered lens for portraits in photography is, as was said, 85mm, but
since you have a crop factor (probably 1.5 times), if you get an 85mm lens
with a DX sensor (which is the case) you would get the equivalent of a
128mm lens, which is a lot, especially if you also want to do some full
    body shots.

By getting a 50mm (which I do have and like a lot) you would get
the equivalent of a 75mm lens, which is closer to the desired 85mm.

Plus, the 50mm 1.8G is a much cheaper lens then the 85mm 1.8G, which if you
are starting out should help budget-wise.

Anyways, just my opinion, I’m still a beginner :)
