  1. I wrote a story (Chimborazo) after the 1992 election. There were events all
over, even in the ice of Antarctica. I decided that a launch point in
Equador would be good and choose Mt. Chimborazo as the location for a 2,000
foot canon that would act as the first stage in going into orbit.
Fortunately for you, I won’t get into the details here.

  2. “My epitaph should read: ‘God damn you all, I told you so.'” — H.G. Wells
So sad, and sadder for us who have to live the consequences.

  3. What about Cyrano de Bergerac? He’s the one who first conceived of
multi-staged rocketry in space voyages in his (otherwise very fantastical)
    book “Other Worlds.”

  4. This video is the american crap. It shows only american point as view as if
it were a centre of the world. Atomic bomb buildup – only Manhattan
project. Space exploration – only Apollo, and so on. Jules Verne wasn’t
that prophet as they say, sending living creatures by cannon is impossible.
The real prophet was actually H.G.Wells. This is a pity there wasn’t really
good movie by “War of the Worlds”. 53 movie was one of the bigges crap I’ve
ever seen. Spielberg’s was no better. “War of the Worlds” novel is a work
of genius. Verne’s books are to be read by children today. But Well’s book
is still great, since even today we didn’t possess Martian’s technology.
Human brain directly steering the mechanism is still a science fiction and
it will be for decades. We still can’t travel to Mars, even return to the
    Moon seems to be impossible.

  5. I can’t believe that people found it that hard to comprehend aerial
bombardment by the Germans in 1935 considering that London had already been
hit by German incendiaries from airships in the 1st world war!

  6. Agreed. However, I don’t think it will come to pass until we have made some
serious progress in leaving our cosmic cradle (i.e. Earth) and start
colonizing other worlds. Only then, I think, will we finally get it through
our heads how utterly ridiculous it is for us to wage war against each
other when we’re all confined to this one single rock spinning through
    space.

  7. the jules verne segments were taken from a 2002 documentary from abc
channel titled “the extraordinary voyage of jules verne. it’s very good and
you can see it on youtube, though dubbed into spanish. i wonder where the
h.g,wells parts were taken from though.
