  12. A great presentation on CBT or in this case CBS, cognitive behavioral
    strategies.

I use a slightly different style in getting people to identify and change
irrational and unhelpful patterns in thinking.

A+ (B) = C . Activating events plus Behavioral Response equals Natural and
logical Consequences, with Behavioral Response (B) being the product of
    beliefs, thoughts and feelings.

  15. People who preach CBT have a panacea complex. When you have a hammer,
everything looks like a nail, when you’re looking for a proscribed set of
thought patterns, that’s all you see. Sometimes the situation is more
    complicated than that.

  16. Yes, REBT is very good at causing stress. Although, to be completely fair,
I hear it can have the opposite effect on people who are highly suggestible
or fantasy-prone. I think there’s a few studies to that effect. It’s sad to
me that a professional therapy exists that encourages double-think and
exploits susceptible people to advance it’s dogma. Scientologists and even
Raelians are much better at this. Maybe you should be talking to them? Let
me know if this response is more on your level.

  17. Nothing, it’s too bad that REBT in practice doesn’t advocate assessing a
situation rationally, on paper, with a cost-benefit analysis of different
options. It’s a very good idea. What’s wrong is using the plot from 1984 as
a therapeutic strategy. That’s the problem with REBT and CBT. It’s not
about rationality, it’s about instrumental rationality or “rational
irrationality” it’s not about epistemic rationality. Big Brother was
instrumentally rational, that doesn’t make it right or therapeutic.

  18. It is shaming, as is labeling just about everything I’ve said so far as
either “odd” or “distorted” especially without providing any evidence to
that effect. If you don’t realize that, and you’re likely just to go on
making more declarative statements like “REBT is a framework for assessing
life situations rationally” without any (or very little) experience as to
how it’s used in practice then, you’re right, this is a waste of out time.

  19. Whoah, what is your problem? You seem kind of crazy, with your own agenda
here. You’re very angry and nothing you have said so far, makes any sense
    at all.

  20. CB Therapists inflict much stress upon people by insisting that anything
that may be a perfect lens for realty is distorted, because, of course,
they have a couple social science degrees and their cookie-cutter approach
to mental health can’t be wrong. If you’re the kind of person that can
resolve conflicts between instrumental rationality and systemic rationality
by some how making yourself believe in the instrumental answer, we’re not
    the same species.

  21. Shaming me, rather than even making an attempt, is basically a
self-fulfilling prophecy. I’m pretty sure a few things are true about you
    (1) you’ve spent comparatively little, if any, time in a CB therapist’s
office (and probably not more than one), (2) you otherwise think of
yourself of a rational person and feel aligned to CBT/REBT because of that,
    (3) you’re fairly liberal, educated and don’t have a history of “serious
mental illness” (4) you don’t know, or completely reject, Thomas Szasz.

  22. One advice: before you quit a job, make sure you find a better one,
otherwise you might end up in serious financial stress.

  23. As we age we face a double whammy so to speak. Glutathione levels begin to
drop each year after we are about 20 years old. Causing oxidative stress
levels to run rampant, so we lose our bodies master antioxidant as we need
it most. This makes it extremely important to supplement levels of Acetyl
Glutathione and NAC in order to maintain health as we age.

  24. Why don’t we just not discuss anything ever again and then we can never
disagree about anything? You can accuse me of making straw man arguments,
but I haven’t misrepresented your views or experience, I’d just invited you
to discuss them and you’ve ignored me. I have, however, been speaking from
my experience and research, that you conveniently say is irrelevant, odd,
distorted, etc. Sorry, sometimes you need to use concepts outside of a
video, even if it’s a very long one, to criticize it.
