The concept of autonomous vehicles I find repulsive. The idea kills the
necessity of man needing danger to thrive. People do daring things because
they’re unsafe. For example if sky diving with a wing suit were safe, do
you think people would do it, or would they find something else that’s more
risky? Obviously they would go for something more risky. That’s the thrill
of life. A machine that flies itself we have. They’re called drones. That
isn’t a good thing. A computer doesn’t disobey orders, when they’re
unethical. In fact computers are typically stupid. They do what you tell
them to do without question. Now here’s the other truth about autonomous
vehicles. We’re in the age of the computer geek. Viruses, hackers, and
espionage is all digital today. So lets just say I was a tyrant for a
second. If you had an autonomous vehicle, I could crash your vehicle and
kill you. Look at what the NSA has already done. Of course there would be
abuse of power with this invention. It’s a perverted idea. Now I do agree,
art and science are the same things, in combination that create
masterpieces. The negative side is, they also create abominations, like
autonomous vehicles. We can build electric aircraft today. We can build
electric cars today. We can generate all of the world’s energy needs
without fossil fuels with an initial investment today, and in the long run,
we would reduce pollution, end wars over resources, and relieve suffering
in countless places across the world. The problem isn’t the technology. The
problem is the oligarchy in charge at the moment. The world is never going
to be a perfect place, because if there’s nothing to strive towards, people
will strive in it’s destruction for something new and different. In science
and art, there’s something that you’re missing that creates masterpieces.
Creativity. Something that only comes from chaos, pain, suffering and
desperation. So if you want to create a world that’s perfect, you’re
missing the entire point of humanity and life.
How the 2000-years old ancient Pantheon in Rome inspired his life is the
subject behind this talk delivered by Bran Ferren. It gives lots of
insights about art, engineering and architecture. Combining all these
elements, one can create an everlasting masterpiece, he says. We agree.
Highly recommended.
hi grandpa
I think this talk should be renamed “the birth of the autonomous vehicle.”
Some things are only said by people who don’t have it.
“I lived among the primitive head hunters for years, and none of them ever
encouraged me to explore my interests in calculus.”
REALLY?
None of the little brains ever encouraged you to explore genius level
thought?
WOW! What a revelation. No one saw that coming.
Some paths you have to walk alone.
What an idiot.
A very interesting man. It just sounds like he’s gonna start crying at any
moment.
When Bran Ferren was just 9, his parents took him to see the #Pantheon in
#Rome — and it changed everything. In that moment, he began to understand
how the tools of science and #engineering become more powerful when
combined with #art, with #design and #beauty. Ever since, he’s been
searching for a convincing modern-day equivalent to Rome’s #masterpiece.
Stay tuned to the end of the talk for his unexpected suggestion.
The more disciplines that are combined, the better.
If I’m getting an automotive vehicle, I’m getting a Dogde Charger.
I am going to begin lying to my car if it becomes intelligent!
Yeah, that pier leads to a hospital. lol I hope a person who needs a
hospital then drives into the sea. oh joy!
Polymaths FTW!
The tremble in his voice..
I am very happy my Pantheon has given someone inspiration to create new,
innovative things of beauty. The beauties and fascination with architecture
did not die with me or my empire. The successive generations of man have
created beauties beyond anything I could have imagined. Keep building, Keep
Creating. Art and Architecture can be one and the same. They must be.
I wouldn’t drive an autonomous car, I enjoy driving. That’s like making all
food go straight into your stomach because “eating is a waste of time”. You
could site things like it costing people more on hygiene and medical bills.
I enjoy eating though. Autonomous vehicles will never be the only vehicle
on the road unless a government forces it to be that way, because people
enjoy being in control. This might work well for large cities like LA and
New York, where driving is pointless anyway. There is no need for
autonomous vehicles in the majority of cities.
Vehicles may have an option for autonomous driving, but it will never be as
popular as the techs supporters make it out to be.
For those that have troubles watching BBC programs, here is the first
episode of Alistair Sooke’s *Treasures of Ancient Egypt – The Birth of Art*.
For those able to watch it on BBC, a remainder : tomorrow at 21 airs the

This is a brilliant series. Having some familiarity with Egyptian
archaeology and art – It was pretty remarkable to find that the rigid
conformity I expected in the artwork was only part of the story. Incredibly
beautiful stuff in here.
What is the name of the culture that created the Gilf Kebir petroglyphs (
5:06)? I can’t quite make it out.
I am not convinced that the statues of Ra-Hotep and Nofret are genuine.
